The Dual Concept of Fair Gaming for Real Money
One might suppose that fair gaming might be the equivalent of sportsmanship. As such, the expression would mean conforming to the ethos of gaming, much as sportsmanship refers to the ethos of sport. In practice, this translates into two basic directions. Firstly, the casino or site hosting the real money gaming must provide games which are objectively fair and honest. Second, the players must refrain from cheating or otherwise attempting to alter the game in their favor.
eCOGRA Ensures Fair Online Casinos
In order to ensure the fair gaming of casinos, there are different companies that provide casino regulations. Such regulation might be provided by the state or various third parties. Online casinos, for example are always being checked for honesty and many bear such symbols as the eCOGRA symbol which certifies the casino as safe for gambling. Aside from downright cheating, other venues where a casino might handle itself unfairly are odds and payout tables that are skewed in favor of the casino or payout delays which allow the player the time to loose his winnings in more casino games. When everything is handled above board and in a responsible manner, the casinos is considered fair. Most casinos strive to maintain their reputation for fairness as much as possible so as to attract players.
Fair Playing
The players at the casinos are also expected to play fair. This should be divided into things that are obviously illegal and forbidden and things that some might deem improper etiquette. The players are tempted into such issues due to the prospect of beating the system and winning money despite the house advantage. A good example of a controversial practice might be card counting. Although some casinos reshuffle and thus nullify the impact of card counting, some are not so particular and card counting could theoretically allow players to win more often than not. On the other hand, some people (and certainly many casino owners) might view card counting as unethical or unsportsmanlike. This approach would be similar to the varying view taken regarding the use of various technologies in classic sports.
