Big Kahuna is one of Microgaming’s older video slots having been created in 2004. However, it continues to be very popular due to its two bonus games where you can pick up a lot of coins when you play real money slots. Of course the “practice” or “play for fun” mode is fun too, but when you play real money slots, Big Kahuna gives you some great excitement. Big Kahuna is a 5-reel 9 pay line slot game with a jungle theme. It has a cute short video introduction that puts you straight into the jungle. With Microgaming’s superb graphics and authentic jungle sound effects you immediately get into the mood. The coin range in this video slot is $0.05 to $2 so it can sometimes be a bit expensive even though you only need to play 9 pay lines. You will find plenty of jungle-style symbols in Big Kahuna: a jungle Chief, Lizard, Golden Masks, Volcanoes and tropical fruits. In some of your winning combinations, you can hear screeching monkeys and tribal sounds and see erupting volcanoes.
Big Kahuna Features
The Big Kahuna logo is the Wild symbol in this game but it only substitutes for the tropical fruits. It does not substitute for the Chief, Lizard, Mask or Volcano. This makes it a bit harder to get significant interim wins between the Bonus games and when I played Big Kahuna, I found that I was in a losing streak. However, the Monkey scatter symbol helps to prevent losses. If you get two or more Monkeys anywhere on the five reels, you have a win. The two Bonus games are the real excitement in Big Kahuna especially if you play real money slots. For Bonus Game #1 you need to get 3, 4 or 5 Volcano symbols in a row on an enabled pay line and the first one must fall on the first reel. Once you have achieved the row of Volcanoes you are taken to a second screen with rows of masks. Under each one there is a bonus number of coins which, as you click on them, get added up until you uncover a mask that says “Collect”. That ends your bonus game. However, if you choose carefully you can add up a whole lot of coins before you hit the “collect” mask. For Bonus Game #2 you have to get 3, 4 or 5 Mask symbols in a row on an enabled pay line and, again, the first one must fall on the first reel. You then get to a second screen where the Chief and the Lizard show you several tropical fruit offerings for the volcano. The fruit you pick will drop into the volcano and display a bonus number of coins. I opted to play Big Kahuna in the “practice” mode rather than to play real money slots just to see what it was like. I had a lot of fun with it even though I found it very difficult to get the row of Masks. It was easier to get the row of Volcano symbols.
